Appearence:
Norman can quite easily be described as a nerd – in appearance and in mind. He, like most other men in his family, is very tall and lanky, standing at that impressive six foot three height even with that poor posture of his. Everything about him either appears long, big, or tall – he is like someone you would expect to see small and impersonal, but grew up in their fourth year. Norman’s hands and feet are a particular example of this, as they are both large and long; his hands are mighty slender (perhaps a guitarist’s hands), and his feet are an impossible fourteen in shoe size (and they are perhaps the reason why he is so clumsy). His build is quite slim and trim, though his arms and legs happen to be longer than his torso – kind of like an ape’s. This “stretched” visage, coupled with his height, makes Norman an ideal retriever of things in high places, though it takes him longer to stoop low and he has been known to fall over with his lack of balance that way.Personality:
Norman does not have much color to him, but he is not so pale as to suggest he never leaves the haven of indoors, and is definitely no vampire. Rather, he is shaded a very light peach, and it is fairly easy for him to burn in the sun – once his skin heals up, he might acquire some type of tan, but it generally goes away quickly because he prefers the indoors to the outdoors. Norman has a long, skinny neck, which makes his adam’s apple more prominent when he swallows or speaks. His shoulders, while they might be broad, do not appear so with his slumped stature; Norman walks about as if he is constantly being dragged to the floor while his arms hang limply at his sides. Though without a six pac, Norman does possess a hard, undefined chest and flat stomach – he is skinny, and if he were to remove his shirt, you might catch a glimpse of his ribs poking out. Norman could never really hold his own in a fight; his arms are slim and unimpressive, but with all the tinkering he has done, they do have some subtle muscle.
Norman’s face is rather bland and unexciting; he would never incite the dreamy looks from a gaggle of girls, that is for certain. His chin is weak and rounded, making his face oval with a tall forehead. It seems as if he is pulling his head back at all times, and if he had a double chin, it would be pushed out because of this. His lips, a feminine shade of deep pink, are an extreme bow-shape; with a thick bottom lip, his top is in contrast by being smaller and (had he been a girl) ideal for lipstick shading. Norman always leaves his mouth open, revealing the slight beaver-teeth he has at all times and making his breathing very loud; his lips seem small because of this, and though he rarely smiles, there are faint dimple-hints at the corner of his mouth. Norman’s nose is really big and protruding from his face – one could say it resembles the roman-esque style. It is so large; it dwarfs the rest of his face and does not fit well. It is easy for him to knock his nose into something as well. His eyes, generally half-closed with a constant smattering of angel dust sticking to them, are a unique color of ice-blue and grey, topped off with thin and arching eyebrows – they are framed by a thick set of huge, oval glasses that appear to magnify the size of his eyes. Norman has a tall forehead, and by the time you reach his hair, you will notice an oddly-shaped hairline – it is jagged and funny, not straight as most others are. His hair is difficult; the color between a dark blond or light brown is situated in tufts of stiff curls all about his head and cover up half his ears. Norman looks at people with a sort of dull interest.
Norman is the classic description of a “nerd” – a pocket-protecting one, of course. He does not know how to dress himself in clothing, but this does not stop the kid from basically playing “dress up” and roaming the halls in a ridiculous getup he honestly believes is correct. It is not uncommon to find him mixing up outfits that obviously do not go together, and not only that, are very outlandish in color. He does not see the problem with showing off his vibrant personality through his clothes – they often reflect his emotion of that day. For instance, darker colors go with his darker moods, and vice versa for the lighter colors. Norman does see his glasses as a hindrance, though, but has not grasped the concept of “contacts” – instead, he uses them as an excuse to show off his intelligence. “I’m not smart… It’s the glasses” is a common phrase he loves to relate, if only in jest.History:
Typically, Norman is of a gentle nature – he is someone who will never say something in purpose attack of another. He prefers to keep everyone around him in good spirits; otherwise he might become the center of some negative attention since most find his appearance and mannerisms amusing. Because he’s a “lover” and not a “fighter”, Norman is fairly easily to overcome and take advantage of. He has difficulty saying no to people, and he is quite naïve if anyone is manipulating him. In other words, Norman is the perfect pushover you can use to fit your fancy – especially for girls. Norman has a weak spot for them, usually breaking out in hives around those he is crushing on, and he can never turn down a pair of pouty lips or goo-goo eyes. Norman has a sweet soul; he cannot see using others as a mean to further himself and so is offended when he finds others which are prone to this type of manipulation.
Norman adopted his parents’ love of construction – while he cannot draw very well, he has learned to form crude drawings that only he can really understand. His curiosity for how things function has made it so he breaks things apart to study them before attempting to rebuild them into something else; Norman can either be successful or fail, though he is proud of both. Norman has used failure as a reason to learn – he takes something and reworks it until he finds what works, and if it doesn’t, he will move on to another and store it for a later use. Norman will not throw anything away; he has clothes saved from when he was a child. His failed attempts to reconstruct things have always been shoved into certain trunks on the off-chance that he might wish to go back and re-live his attempt. Norman believes that one day, he might just figure out what is wrong and will be able to fix it, and it makes him reluctant to truly give up on anything. Norman is also the one people could go to if they need computer programs -- he can create them from scratch, and therefore this has made him very adept at hacking programs too. He is an expert at slipping into firewalls and accessing confidential data.
The Courtlandt and Dabney families have always been close thanks to an old alliance between two great-grandfathers – each generation afterwards just fell into line. It was thought of as “good chemistry”. And so it was no surprise when Benjamin and Bernadette began linking together; friends since they were in diapers, the two attended school and were lucky enough to be in the same classes, making it easier for their closeness to prosper. Their years at the school were spent with just the right amount of trouble making, hard times, and workable grades. Neither student broke away from each other – they were each other’s best friend, and did not surround themselves with people who liked to taunt them about such closeness, or who didn’t appreciate both. You either took the pair as was, or you got nothing. It was a widely spread belief that Benjamin and Bernadette were love-struck teenagers, and they were voted most likely to marry after graduation. This served as a great topic to laugh about between them; while both did love each other very much, it was nothing like two young lovers would feel. They had a brother and sister bond rather; best friends destined to remain just that: friends.Sample Rp:
This did not deter their parents, however, from wishing for a union – finally. After their graduation, Benjamin and Bernadette decided to form their business, as both were prone to unique talents. Benjamin had a real knack for building things – he found no greater joy than to tear something apart and reconstruct it into something better. Bernadette, however, was an awesome architect – she was often the mastermind behind Ben’s constructions with her great imagination. Together, the two made the best pair and both wanted the world to benefit from their talents (as cocky as that sounded). With the help and sponsoring of their parents, they created Benjamin&Bernadette contracting: a company which would design and construct buildings for their clients. The first year of their debut, the two did very well for themselves – they had several opportunities to flaunt their business and their portfolio of accomplishments grew. As it seemed that Bernadette had a good head for business, she took on the financial matters as well. The two families were delighted at the duo they made, and the matter of a connection was soon resurrected.
Though very young and believing neither were quite ready for marriage, Benjamin and Bernadette decided to take it under consideration. They looked at the facts: they had a business together, they knew everything about one another, and they were the best of friends. It was lucky that they both thought it was better to marry your best friend than someone you thought you loved; friends were just like family, and they already knew they loved each other… just not in the romantic sense. Still, they had more reasons to wed than not to, and so agreed willingly to their parents’ wishes. Two months later, the best friends were on their honeymoon and their parents’ were caring for the business. Benjamin and Bernadette found the married life to be rather easier than they had imagined – it did not even feel strange to “love” each other, and within the year, they had already conceived. Far be it to say their family was thrilled to hear the news and Bernadette was soon treated like a fragile piece of glass that might shatter at any given moment. She was forbid to go into work, and had to do so from home, finding she was not about to let the company drown because of her condition. Even Benjamin was worried his wife might break.
The two became parents at a very young age, but with the help and support of their family, it was easy to raise their son, Norman. Norman was babied from the second he was born – both families loved nothing better than to shower the boy with kisses and gifts, making for a very warm yet slightly spoiled environment. Benjamin and Bernadette juggled their company and home life; it was not uncommon for them to bring Norman to work every so often whenever his grandparents were unavailable. It became apparent at a young age that Norman, just like his mother and father, had a knack for constructing. As a tyke he liked to play with gadgets and usually tore them apart. When Benjamin saw his son attempting to put things back together, he began instructing the lad in how to do it. Bernadette also liked to share her wisdom with Norman, and tried to teach him how to sketch things – Norman was not nearly as proficient with this, but he could create very crude diagrams that he understood. The parents made Norman feel really good about himself; they would occasionally ask the child what he thought on a project and would praise him for whatever outlandish idea he came up with. However, they never followed the advice of a ten year old – they just wanted to encourage him.
An excited Norman finally began excited – after hearing the fun and interesting stories his parents had to say about their time there, he was more than anxious to find out how his time would progress. Norman showed great interest in computers, too. After much tutoring, he became successful with computer programs and eventually taught got involved with highly intelligent folk who knew how to hack programs too. They taught him everything; Norman could break his way into any program provided he had enough (correct) information. To date, he has been called upon by several people for his "talent", which he uses without a problem for trades (whether this is money or any other interesting proposition). For now, he is merely used for his intelligence.
