No matter how much he tries to fight it, the curly hair always returns! It’s like a dark side he tries to crush by using endless straightening products and tamers, but oh no no, as sure as the sun dawns every morning, you can bet the unruly curls return. He does manage to keep it under control though, so he doesn’t look like he’s got a little afro going on. Usually, he has a little bit of stubble because he prefers it to being clean shaven and it enables him to not have to go through the monotony of shaving. He is completely tattoo free, but is pretty sure he wants at least one done in the near future.

He’s fairly tall and average in weight, and dresses mainly in jeans, polo tees and whatever he has lying about. He’ll only wear a suit for special occasions because he bloody hates them, so if you manage to get him into one, it will be a miracle.

Personality:

Richard has two completely conflicting sides of him. The asshole and the sweet guy. Part of him is genuine, caring and sweet, and the other part of him doesn’t want to sit there and talk about feelings because he just wants to party and kiss a couple girls. For example, if you break up with your boyfriend, and you’re still crying about it two weeks later, he’ll just tell you to suck it up and move on. He doesn’t see the point in crying over spilt milk, which can make him seem like a bit of a dick sometimes. Maybe that’s true, but it’s also a well-needed reality check to some people.

To Richard, life is just too short to waste time. He’s trying to make the most of his life, due to things that have happened in the past. He grabs every opportunity that comes his way, but sometimes he’s a little too eager, and will refuse to wait around. Girls tend to get frustrated with him – he will do the chasing thing for so long but, eventually, he gets bored and he’ll move on. The same goes for them crying over being ‘fat’ or being late because they get changed a million times; he really has no patience and he just gives up and gets on with life.

However, there is a compassionate, goofy side to the lad. On first meeting him, you’ll be able to tell he’s a people person. He loves to be the clown and the centre of attention. He’s a funny guy, and initially, he’ll make an effort to try and cheer any person up. Rich doesn’t hold grudges, and although he is normally very forgiving, if someone has really done him wrong he’ll just erase them from his life.

History:

Richard’s family are wealthy, but not ridiculously so. He doesn’t have the estates, the fast cars or the designer clothes. Let’s say he’s a little more than comfortable. His father is in the construction industry and his mother an accountant. Of course, they both are pretty highly ranked otherwise he wouldn’t have attended Hillard, alongside his twin brother. Now, his twin was like the other side of him. They always say that twins have a spooky connection, don’t they? Well, Richard and Mike were precisely like that, although usually they used their freaky abilities for their own benefit and in the name of mischief. From fooling a teacher into believing one was the other, or ‘sharing’ a job so they didn’t always have to be there. Not only were they brothers, but best friends, until the dreaded happened.

Mike was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 16. The cancer had spread to all over his vital organs, including his brain. He was told he had four months to live. The news shattered the Adams household, and no-one really knew what to do. From returning home from the hospital, both boys, and his mother and father sat around the dining table staring into their hands, into complete silence. In fact, it was Mike that broke the silence, by cracking a terrible knock knock joke. Richard couldn’t handle it, and stormed out in fury. Later that evening, his brother sat down with him and told him that nothing could be changed, but he needed Richards help to try and live the next four months of his life fully. He wanted to do all the things he’d always wanted, but he wanted to do it with his best friend and twin – Rich. Over the next three months, funds were raised and the boys abseiled, partied, skydived, shopped and all sorts of other things.

As Mike reached the third month and Richard was beginning to feel optimistic that it was all just a terrible mistake, Mike began to show signs of brain decay. You could say something to him, and he just wouldn’t understand. Not long after, he had to be put in hospital because he was unable to function properly and needed help doing day to day things. As time passed, he became more and more distant and unaware of his surroundings, and it was apparent his body was shutting down. In his last week of life he lay there in a dumb silence, uttering nothing but the odd murmur of nonsense. He wet himself and dribbled, and was basically unable to move. It was like Richard was trying to interact with someone he didn’t know. He was losing the other half of him, and he could do nothing. It was on a dark evening in February that Mike passed away, and Rich could swear that in his last moments his twin looked up at him and smiled. And then it was over.

Since then, Richard has harboured a sort of suppressed anger that is channelled into impatience and frustration. However, the death of his brother helped him to understand how sacred life is, and he tries his very best to cherish every moment as Mike would have.
