Appearance:
When Kylie Rae Barlow was born, she was little. When she was growing up, she was little. As she got into her young adulthood, she was still little, and friends often joked about her being pocket-sized. The girl has always had small hands, small feet, and short legs, only hitting about five foot four and 135 pounds. This was all inherited from her mother, because while her father is a sky high height of nearly six feet, Kylie's mother is and has always been around five foot five. Being tiny doesn't bother Kylie Rae at all; she rather enjoys it, to be honest. She calls herself compact-sized: able to fit just about anywhere as long as she doesn't have heels on. Her small frame also helps with the opposite sex, because it's easier for boys to lift her up and carry her around and toss her into pools (which has happened often during the summertime). Of course, she's not some tall, built, smoking hot supermodel, but Kylie just usually figures that she wouldn't feel like herself if she was. She was born compact- and pocket-sized, and that's how she's been her entire life, and that's pretty much the way she wants it to be.Personality:
Whereas Kylie inherited her small stature from her mother, she got her dark hair from her father. He was born with a full head of dark brown hair, as was Kylie. As she was growing up, it was thick and dark and grown out until it hit the middle of her back, but when she hit her sophomore year of high school, Kylie decided to chop it all off. It was cut very short and close to her scalp, much like a feminine boy cut, and nearly everyone around her was in shock and awe at it. They had begged her not to do it, but she went against them, doing it anyway and thoroughly enjoying it. Since then, it's grown out a bit, but she still keeps it pretty short. She just enjoys it better than long hair, and in her words, she "went through the girly long hair thing already" and decided to go in a different direction. In addition to getting her hair color from her father, she also got his eye color: a mix of hazel brown. One can usually tell how Kylie Rae is feeling by looking in her eyes and at her face, because all her emotions are displayed there for everyone to see, even if she says she's feeling otherwise. This goes hand-in-hand with the fact that she's a bad liar, but that's a different story.
Being a very physically active girl, Kylie likes sports and playing outdoor games, so all her moving and shaking keeps her fit. She's got some muscle on her, and will try her best to hold her own when put up against other people (boys in particular), but sometimes she gets in a state of denial that (most) people are just bigger and stronger than she is. She forgets how tiny she is until she loses a challenge or gets hurt. Even though she's a bit tomboy-ish in this way, she likes all kinds of clothes, including dresses and skirts and leggings (the "girly" clothes) and jeans and sweats and hoodies (the more "boyish" clothes). She has a wardrobe full of both kinds in her college dorm room, including athletic wear for when she wants to work out at the gym or go for a run around her college campus. In addition to this, Kylie also likes makeup, but she doesn't wear it every single day; sometimes she doesn't feel like getting up earlier in the morning just to put it on. To keep her skin as clean and clear as she can, Kylie does have a daily routine of washing her face at least twice a day, and taking a shower at least once a day.
Kylie Rae has always been and will probably always be a bubbly, cheerful, comedic kind of girl. She does her best to take any and every situation and turn it into a positive, and if she can't do that, she tries to at least lighten the mood a little bit. The breakup with her first boyfriend caused a big switch in her personality, causing her to hit depressive lows, but she kept them as hidden as she could. Only those really, really close to her at the time knew about the breakup and could tell she was hurting. That's another aspect of Kylie's personality that she's always had: making friends easily and being there for them, but never broadcasting her own personal pains or frustrations to them out of fear that they'll just feel bothered. A lot of people can easily perceive this as Kylie being unsure about trusting others, and this is partly true.History:
Along with her high levels of caring for others, Kylie also tries to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. She'd want to feel welcome and comfortable around other people, so she just tries to do the same for them. She also does this around children, often joking that whenever her older brother Shawn manages to have kids of his own, she'll just babysit them and be the only babysitter his kids will ever want. If they ever try to use another babysitter, the kids will just dump chocolate pudding on the poor, unsuspecting soul until Shawn gets Aunt Kylie to come instead. Kylie's sense of humor also usually shines through most of the time, and she uses it to try to break the ice in awkward situations, relieve tension, lighten the mood and just generally allow herself to be a goofball.
Sometimes Kylie will speak her mind, unable to keep her mouth shut, but usually she tends to just keep opinions to herself. If she doesn't know someone very well, or if she doesn't know the situation, she'll stay quiet about whatever opinions she might have. If she's really close with someone, though, she'll usually just give her full opinion and speak her mind, which sometimes leads to bickering and arguing. She never means to hurt anyone or cause any pain, and she certainly doesn't wake up in the morning and purposely plan things out so she can make other people feel hurt, but sometimes Kylie Rae just can't keep her mouth closed and words come flying out of there like there's no tomorrow.
Kylie Rae Barlow was born during the summer month of July, which probably led to her love of warm, summery weather. The cold has never agreed with her, and she often gets moody if the weather's too cold or too wet or too windy. Her parents and older brother often joke about this, laughing that Kylie could easily fill any of the personalities shown by the seven dwarves from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." When it's summertime, her parents figure she's like Happy (and her older brother calls her Dopey -- completely out of love, of course), but when it's winter, she's like Grumpy. Of course, the other personalities can accompany certain situations, and it's just an ongoing joke between the four of them. After Kylie was born, her parents decided they were finished having children, and it was around this time that Kylie's paternal grandparents began having problems with their health. The pair lived in Central, California, and the Barlows lived about an hour away; the Barlows decided it would be best to pack everything up and move closer to the grandparents so they could help. It was a fairly easy move, and Kylie's father, a pediatrician, was able to transfer over and secure a job at Central's local hospital. Kylie's mother, who had been a housewife for the longest time, continued this until both Kylie and her older brother Shawn were far enough along in Central's public elementary school that she could work and take care of them at the same time.Sample Rp:
Shawn was starting seventh grade and Kylie was starting fifth grade when their mother finally felt comfortable enough to take on a job as a secretary for a local real estate office. With both parents working and both kids enrolled in school, the Barlows were doing pretty well, having been settled into Central for several years. Kylie and Shawn's paternal grandparents were kind of stuck in neutral as far as their health went, but it was during Shawn's seventh grade year and Kylie's fifth grade year that their grandmother caught a severe cause of pneumonia. She ended up in the hospital, and after several days of trying to get past the illness, she passed away. Their grandfather was heartbroken, and his health declined even further, causing him to pass away nearly four months later. Both Barlow parents agreed that his death was partly because of his health, and partly because of heartbreak. Kylie and Shawn's father took it very hard, seeing as how both grandparents were his own parents, and he hit a low depression for quite awhile. It took a lot of work and a lot of support from the rest of the Barlows to help heal not only their father, but themselves, and it was a very trying time.
Things slowly got better for the Barlows, and Kylie and Shawn grew up and were in high school before their parents knew it. Kylie was an avid fan of music, and quickly found her own voice in singing, quite literally: she was a very good singer, and went around singing whenever and wherever she could. In addition to that, she was involved in playing musical instruments, taking classes and getting herself involved in band and choir during junior high and high school. It was pretty much the love of her life, and she loved doing it, and her family was proud of the fact that Kylie found something she excelled at -- of course, aside from the fact that she loved doing it and it made her happy. During high school, Kylie got involved with the drama department a few times, getting cast in a total of two musicals during her four years, and it was this experience that brought her her first boyfriend. She'd always been interested in boys, but was never a flirt, and she never really openly expressed any interest in anybody. She just went on with her life as usual, most of the time, until a mutual interest between her and another singer in one of the plays launched Kylie's first relationship. It lasted from sophomore year until the middle of Kylie's senior year, and when the pair broke up, it was due to a conflict of interest -- and it left her heartbroken.
Instead of trying to be friends with her ex-boyfriend, like she tried to do with everyone regardless of... well, anything, Kylie couldn't even speak to him. She avoided him at all costs and stayed away, ignoring any phone calls, and just generally cut the boy out of her life. She missed him and never said anything, and she was afraid of getting wrapped up in him all over again only to get hurt -- again. It had been her first relationship and she had no other experience, and it just generally left her hurt and heartbroken, still caring deeply for somebody who was no longer in her life, worried over how he was doing when she didn't even know if he was worried over her. It's been nearly a year but she's still trying to move past the emotional strain of the breakup, keeping all those feelings hidden deep down and just going on with her life as if nothing ever happened. Upon high school graduation, Kylie transitioned into Central College, moving into the dorms (even though she lives in Central) and majoring in music education. Her love for music plus her love for kids fueled this decision, and she figures it would be a pretty awesome future -- spending time with kids and helping them expand their horizons and further their love for music.
After struggling with his History of Magic essay for nearly two hours after classes were over for the day, Jamie Ashton Wood leaned back against the propped up pillows on his bed with a heavy sigh. "Bugger me..." He muttered gently to himself, closing his eyes and reaching a hand up to cover them, rubbing his fingertips in a slow, circular motion against his forehead. He just didn't have the smarts for this. Or, at least, that's what it felt like... all the time. Herbology was really the only subject he had any kind of interest in and he wasn't even particularly good at that. Sure, he'd gotten a E on his O.W.L.s for it, but Jamie didn't even have any idea how he'd gotten it. He'd barely managed to make it through those tests to begin with, getting just regular, average, passing grades; how he squeaked by with an E in Herbology was beyond him.Celeb:
Jamie was in his dormitory at the moment, resting in his bed while a couple of the other boys slept. The rest of them seemed to be off doing something else around the castle somewhere; Jamie wasn't particularly sure. Lowering his hand down away from his face, he blinked a few times to restore his vision. A moment or two passed and Jamie's mind wandered from the unfinished essay on his lap to what everyone else might be doing at this time of night. It was still early yet, but not early enough to go out gallivanting on the grounds or something of the sort. Maybe there were a few people in the lounge? Jamie bit gently on his lower lip, then looked down at his essay, sighing softly once more. He closed it all away and set it on his nightstand, climbing out of bed and sticking his sock-covered feet into a pair of house slippers, preparing himself to make the journey out of Ravenclaw tower and to the student lounge.
His hand ruffled over his brown hair as he made his way through the dormitory, and his slippers made a soft shuffling sound as they moved across the floor. It was a good thing he decided to wear them, because it was cold. Very cold. He was now looking forward to the lounge even more -- and its fireplace. Thank Merlin for fireplaces. Wearing a dark grey t-shirt with a pair of plaid pajama pants, Jamie grabbed a dark hoodie on his way out of the dorm, tugging it on over his head and adjusting it as he shuffled through the Ravenclaw common room and down to the lounge. There had to be some hot cocoa in there, too. That sounded brilliant. Once he approached the lounge entrance, Jamie shuffled inside, giving the room a comfortable, content look over. Smiling a bit to a few students sitting nearby in greeting, his gaze caught the table that included the food. It was like a table full of heaven. And... there it was. Hot cocoa. "Oh, brilliant." He exclaimed softly, slippers shuffling quietly as he headed over and poured himself a mug.
