Matt is moderately tall, but very well built. Topped off with soft, never cosmetically altered dark hair and deep, haunting dark eyes. He's not exactly pale, he tans well in the warm California sun. The majority of Matt's body is muscle, as an avid player of many sports before his depression. He's got a great smile, if you're lucky enough to see it often.

When it comes to style, Matt's fairly classical. He likes dark, he likes simple, he's not a bright colors kind of guy, but he'll wear white without a problem. Solid color shirts, jeans, and a simple leather jacket is his typical attire.

Never a makeup man, nail polish and jewelery are not really his agenda. There are a few exceptions. He often wears a small silver ring, as does his brother and sister. As gifts from their parents, set in with the family crest and the birthstone of each child. Matt's happens to be a deep oaken green emerald. Around his neck hangs another ring, far too small for his own fingers. Elegant and gold, obviously feminine, inlaid with small diamonds and a heart shaped sapphire. Never leaves him, and probably never will.

Personality:

Matt can be separated in two personality categories. Before the loss of his parents and his fiance, Matt was the epitome of 'boy next door.' So to speak. He was very friendly and polite, always helpful and never angry. He put his family and friends before anything. He smiled often, and could be found in a good mood almost all the time. As long as David wasn't around.

After the loss, he changed. Reclusive and mildly anti social, Matt has become a loner. He now prefers solitude instead of the outgoing people he spent time with before. He dropped all his friends save his kid sister, who has ever been his best friend and one of his favorite people. He's not rude, at least not on purpose. He's polite and seemingly shy. He's not. It's not shyness that keeps him from others, it's fear of making friends just to lose them.

He's a strong believer that he carries bad luck, and doesn't want it to rub off on anyone else. Unfortunately he has a hard time with this, because he's always been the type who couldn't leave someone who needs help. You may hate him, you may not even know him, but he won't let anything happen to you if he could help it. It gets him in trouble occasionally, but he's learned to live with it.

Matt isn't exactly typical, of course he has the interests males do, he is drawn to females like anyone else, he thinks about sex, but he tries to keep it secret. And it works. He doesn't show his interest in most girls, because he doesn't want to get close to them. He is not the 'one night stand' kind of guy, though he's had a couple. He doesn't blush, but he does get nervous, leaving him at a loss of feeling or words.

Matt's not particularly violent, he's not afraid to get in a fight as long as he believes in the reason, but with his older brother David, it's different. He and David have always butted heads, and is the only person who can bring out the inner brawler in Matt. Often in public places, or when they're feeling particularly 'nice' toward each other, the fists are exchanged for playful banter, but it often gives way to harsher activity.

History:

Matt was born in northern California to Elixabeth and Stefan Salvatore, a very happy, and very wealthy family. He grew up normally, the typical rivalry with his older brother David, the pair often getting in trouble for fighting. Just after his baby sister Alexis was born, his family moved. His father took a job in Rome and uprooted the rest of the family. They didn't mind, but David hated it. Matt enjoyed the change, but more than that, he enjoyed Alexis. She became his clone, even though he was only a few years older she was always with him, copying. She was his best friend, even after he met Athena.

She was the daughter of a co-worker of his father, and she was perfect. At the age of fourteen the two started dating. Of course they had their ups and downs, David interfering whilst he was home from his fancy boarding school. He had no interest in Athena, he'd admitted. But he did enjoy making Matt miserable. Though she cheated with David, Matt never held it against Athena because David was very womanizing, even at the tender age of seventeen. On and off over two years, Matt never straying far during their 'break ups', until Matt asked on Athena's eighteenth birthday for her to marry him. He presented her with a ring, her favorite stone setting and she accepted.

They found out not a week later that young Athena was pregnant. Based on timing, Athena assured him that there was no possibility of the baby belonging to anyone but him. Of course Matt's parents were upset, but at the same time happy, because they loved children. She called him from the hospital on the delivery date, and he, Alexis, and his excited parents rushed to the hospital. Matt was never to see his baby alive though, he didn't understand why there was a cross tagged to the door of Athena's room. But it was because they little girl had not made it through delivery, and the mother was in critical condition. The doctors gave him time, whilst they tried to operate on Athena, to hold his non breathing daughter. He was still in shock and staring at the bundle in his arms as they told him that the mother had not made it, and gave condolences. He was heartbroken.

During her hospitalization, Athena had requested that if anything should happen, the ring be given back to him, and so he kept it as a constant reminder of her. Her and his baby girl. If asked he'd say he'd trade places if he could, but knows he can't. He wasn't that same. He didn't speak for nearly two weeks, he was sent to therapy. He was angry, at himself, for not having been able to do anything. Angry at David, for being too heartless to even appear for the funerals, even that of his would be niece. He was depressed, and exactly two and a half weeks after the funeral, just over a month after his loss, his parents, he, and his sister were in a car accident. Neither mother, nor father made it to the hospital with breath.

Being old enough for Italian standards, both boys were offered guardianship of Alexis instead of an orphanage. David never responded, and was deemed unfit. Matt accepted, and with the inheritance from his parents, moved he and Alexis away from the place that had caused them so much pain. He takes good care of her, though at her age she takes care of herself more than he does.
