Joseph Michael Kennedy

Character Name: The names 'Joseph' and 'Michael' were not chosen for a specific reason. His parents were simply pleased with the way in which their two favorite male names complimented each other. Though, both of the names have their roots in scripture, his parents were not regular church attendees and were probably unaware of the meanings. Kennedy was family name, obviously from his father's side. It's a strong Irish name that reveals almost immediately the first half of his ethnicity. Though his mother's family originates directly from Slovakia, it was a mutual decision to steer away from the traditional Slovak names for their son.
Nickname(s): The only nickname he's ever gone by is Joe, the most commonly used variation of Joseph. None of his family were particularly fond of Joseph in its entirety, and he refused to be called 'Mike' or even his full middle name. So 'Joe' was really the only logical answer.

Age: Nineteen. Extenuating circumstances have prevented him from graduating with his class back in Chicago. He transfered to Central High School to hopefully obtain the rest of his credits.

Joe is quite undernourished as his gaunt figure suggests. It's probably due to the sleepless nights and the direct denial of food on a daily basis that has attributed to this level of weight loss. Standing at five feet/eleven inches, and weighing in at 135 lbs there's no doubt that he's well on his way to rivaling a third world country dweller. Even though his emaciated figure could easily be described as skin and bones, slight muscle can still be seen and felt on his upper arms and thighs from his days on the track field. But, much of that former strength and health has been given up for the sake of his habits.

He isn't exactly what one might consider "handsome", with angular features that are only accentuated by his sunken in cheeks. Joe's face is rather long and thin, his chin coming to a rounded point - could be accurately described as "oval shaped". The sickly pale complexion of his skin highlights the bruise colored circles that seem to have made their home under his eyes, quite obviously attributed to his lifestyle choices. His lips are rather full, and are neither small in width. His teeth are no where near perfect, crooked and stained the classic nicotine yellow. He doesn't have a large nose, but it does appear to be slightly crooked to the right. His eyes are quite large and almond shaped, and have always been the same pale blue since the day he was born. However, they do seem to be frequently glassed over in more recent times causing the blue of his irises to dull significantly. Joe's eyebrows are equally as large as his eyes, in regards to normal eyebrows, and seem to be just as thick. Unlike the general population today, Joe's dark brown hair is untouched by any products or chemical dyes, and thus retains its natural softness. Though, with the lack of personal hygiene and the fact that Joe was graced with thick hair, it tends to usually be in a state of dishevel, sticking from his head this way and that.

Even with his tall and lanky structure, Joe stands with a bit of a slouch. Usually with his hips jutting out and his torso angled more in a backwards direction. His shoulders tend to be rolled forward under normal circumstances, giving his body a slight "S" shape. He normally sits a bit slouched over, elbows nearly resting on his knees, or if there is an object (such as a table) in the way, then he opts for the backwards slouched position, which includes but is not limited to: upper back resting against the chair, arms folded over chest, legs bent at the knees and sticking out farther than they are intended to.

Joe is not a fast walker and more or less drags himself wherever his destination may be. Not that he intentionally takes his time to "smell the roses", but he couldn't physically move any faster if he sincerely tried. He tends to have a bit of a stagger in his step as well due to the fact that he's, more times than not, inebriated under one substance or another. He more or less has adopted poor equilibrium causing him to nearly trip over his own feet at times. Joe carries himself with an apathetic air; one that almost seems to lack confidence rather than possess it. He isn't exactly the approachable type. Along with apathy, there's also a hint of bitterness and anger which people are usually warded off by.

Joe's style, or rather lack of, consists mainly of old band t-shirts collected from over the years and about two pairs of pants. He hasn't bought a new article of clothing in over three or four years, and doesn't feel the need to. Nor does he have the funds to go spend on such things. However, it is obvious that he is in need of a new wardrobe, with the holes and stains on his various shirts and the jeans that are at least a size too big for him. He owns one pair of shoes, and those are ordinary brown Dr. Martens worn in and scuffed up from years of wear.

Personality:

There is a reason why I marked Joe's orientation as 'bisexual'. However, it's a complicated one that deserves further explanation.

Orientation:
Due to certain questionable circumstances that have occurred throughout his childhood, Joe is less than certain about his orientation. He constantly reminds himself that he's not a "freak", as he puts it, and thus is only attracted to females. However, he seems to be constantly at the hands of other males, either by force or by choice. Joe, even though he does indeed gain enjoyment from those encounters, is regretfully sickened by the mere thought of it. For now, the subject has been pushed to the back of his mind, only to fester and inevitably poke at him until he either comes to terms with it or figuratively implodes.
