Personality:
How to even begin to describe Kali, hmm? Well, let's start with the simple stuff, shall we my pet. To begin with Kaliska can only be described as one thing - exotic. Which is fitting for both her looks, as well as her personality. Being of Native American heritage, she definitely makes it obvious that this heritage is not act. She has the traditional coppery brown skin of a native american, that is always lush, and bright, shining with health. Her eyes are a soft brown, that are always sparkling with some teasing knowledge. Kali wears her hair long, and though it is naturally straight, she loves to play with it, going from curls one day, to waves the next, then a random day of fringe in between. Her hair is semi long - falling to about the mid of her back, though it's been longer before. Having had it cut short, about a year ago, she is still in the process of growing it back out. Kali can be described as rather average in height. She stands at five foot six inches, even. Not insanely tall, nor unreasonably short, but at a height that makes her feel at ease - until Colt makes her feel short when he decides to purposely tower over her. Despite being on sixteen, her figure is well proportioned. A figure that a model, or even an actress would die for, Kali prides herself on just how well she takes care of herself.
At first glance one might assume that Kali is like any other girl. Pampered, protected, innocent from the world, but despite all that this girl has a streak to act out. Her first moment of acting out was when she got her ears pierced, the second was when she decided to get a tattoo on the curve of her right hip of a coyote's pawprint. Other then her ears pierced once, and the tiny tattoo, though; she has no other body alterations or modifications. The rest of her is truly - what you see is what you get.
Now here is where Kali gets original. Despite being what one might call a 'hip' sort of teenager in the modern world, Kali is often found around her home in the clothing that feels most comfortable to her, often including deerskin skirts, and moccasins. In fact, unless the occasion demands for something different, moccasins are what she almost always wears, do to how lightly they can tread, and how comfortable they feel. Having over seven different pairs also helps her avoid reusing obsessively. She's also seen in modern clothing though, wearing jeans, t-shirts, skirts, shorts, jackets. Though, she's often seen in indian styled jackets, many hand made by her parents, for her; and sent from the reservation up to her, while she's living here. When it comes to make up - however, she doesn't really do traditional nor non traditional. Sometimes she is seen with mascara and eyeshadow, and she always wears lip gloss, but, unless it was a special occasion, that's all she'd be wearing.
There are so many ways to describe this... unique girl. To begin with, Kaliska can be described as a sort of tomboy. She's more carefree then one of her age should be. And having grown up on a reservation, she has developed a natural love for the natural world. She isn't against climbing trees, cliff diving, racing through the woods. Anything that can get her outside, get her to become part of the natural world. Once she's there, she's... well, she's beyond happy to tell you the truth. Going hand in hand with her tomboy behavior is the fact that Kaliska is the type of girl who refuses to back down. She would stare down a beetle if it dare look at her wrong. Once a challenge has been positioned, she won't back down till she has been declared the winner. She isn't the sort to let others take her for granted either. She's a very opinionated, and strong willed girl. Prepared to do what ever it takes to make sure the vision she sees is the vision that ends up happening. She refuses to bow down before anyone, and will verbally attack another, then let them talk her - or anyone she cares about - down.History:
Despite her almost aggressive flaws, Kali can be very sweet and caring too. Kali has a very gentle soul in her - a soul that makes her a pacifist, detesting the idea of physical violence, though she isn't against using a few choice words when they are truly needed. She's also a caring, and generous individual, helping those in need, especially if the needy is someone close to her. Her sweet side comes to view only when she is around those she trusts, allowing them to see the inner sweetheart, as well as them letting them know the real soul with in the pretty native american's heart. She's also a very realistic sort of girl, believing in what her eyes see, rather then what others want her to believe - giving her a more grown up approach to life, as well as enlightening others around her, that though she may be a native american... It didn't mean she was some uncultured savage.
Despite how others may see her acting around her friends, when Kali is approached by someone she doesn't know, the sweet child turns into a shy sort of angel. She's also the sort to be described as nervous - especially when she is spoken down too. Coming from living off a reservation, she often feels at ill around others, unsure of how to fit in, finding herself becoming a minority instead of a majority. She sticks close to Colt, letting him be the buffer between her and the rest of the world. Along with being super shy, and easily made to feel nervous - Kali is also in terms, one of an innocent mind. Growing up on a reservation, where everyone knew everyone, coming to a town where she knows no one, but her best friend (though she will refer to him as her other brother.), it's no surprise she finds herself to feeling left out of the lope. She's also the sort that gets confused by the actions of those around her, especially when they concern with a more... delicate nature, do to the fact that in the reservation, where everyone knows everyone, it was expected that you behave appropriately. Coming here now, where though the expectation remains, it is not enforced, thus leaving her experiencing a whole new part of the social life of a teenager.
Along with being a shy creature, many probably wouldn't find it hard to believe that Kaliska has trust issues. Especially in the concern of men, and boys. While she knows she has no true reason for this distrust, she still feels a sense of alarm when she is left alone with a male. Perhaps it's from hearing stories of what indian braves might do to unsuspecting women - or perhaps hearing stories of the outside world from elders. Either way, Kali doesn't give men her trust right of the bat. It's something that has to be earned. Another interesting issue about Kali is that when she gets afraid, or angry, her english switches to cherokee. And as if speaking with a southern drawl wasn't bad enough, when she switches to Cherokee... Well, it's no surprise she's not exactly the normal sort of girl walking the halls of this school.
When it concerns Kaliska's likes, it's more of a touch and go sort of quest to discover these things. Unlike her dislikes, she doesn't often tell others what she likes. It takes a bit of work to learn if she approves of something. But the things that re more obvious include things like nature, coyotes (which are her favorite animals) and dream catchers (which she collects). She also loves flowers, especially orchids, and irises. She's also more fond of the night, then the day - though she's terrified of the dark. She loves the moon, and the stars, and adores going to zoos to see the animals in them. Kaliska is an animal lover, she's the type of girlfriend who would see a kitten abandoned on the side of the world, and risk her life, crossing the road, just to pick it up and take it home.
Kaliska's dislikes are easier to discover, do to the fact she's not afraid to share them, not afraid to let others know what she thinks of something, if it's something that annoys, or disgusts her. One of the biggest things that annoys her is when some one asks her what Indians do, asking if they're still, for lack of better terms, stuck in the past with their culture. She also has a thing against the word 'Savage' as well as 'injun.' Kali also dislikes being in darkness, not for the fear of the dark - though that is part of it - but because she's afraid of what might be hiding in the dark as well. Kali is also not fond anything cold, be it snow, sleet, or even a chilly brush of wind. She is also not fond of codes. She finds that when she has to attempt to figure out what someone is saying, then obviously what they want or intend to say is nothing of importance. Or they'd tell her flat out.
Kaliska was born to a proud native american set of parents, on a reservation just south of Eagle Pass, Texas. The Kickapoo Reservation. Despite being of Cherokee heritage, and her first name being of Siwok decent, her parents had been living in the Kickapoo Reservation for quite a while, having their first son, Takoda; born under their small home on the reservation.Sample Rp:
Loving on a reservation was fun - at least, to Kali it was. The experience is not one granted to must, nor is the freedom. Culture was kept sacred, allowing Kaliska to grow up with a familiarization of the Indian Cultures, all of them that she came in contact during her days on the reservation. Along with the culture, she also was given the freedom of having fun, and playing with out worrying about getting in trouble. Because of the laws regarding who is, and who is not allowed on the reservation; Kaliska and others were often considered safer from the troubles associated with living where there are not as many restrictions. Along with knowing everyone, it allowed the community to keep a very close connection, the reservation members becoming parts of the family that she'd hold dear.
Her life was simple, her toddler years spent following her brother. No matter where he went, Kali was sure to follow, a puggy little baby girl, her straight hair flapping behind her. And despite how annoying Tak's friends might have found it, Takoda who adored his little sister, would willingly let her come along. This created a tight unit between the two siblings, Takoda becoming the protector and guardian of the little sister who didn't think before she spoke or acted.
When it was time for her to start attending the school on the reservation, there were many subjects not taught - especially in regular schools. She had daily lessons in both Cherokee, as well as English. Lessons in the History of her tribe, the history of the united states. As well as a class teaching her herbology, starting students at a young age so they might be able to help the community more fully. School was a unique thing though. Classes were often shorter - more direct, with students willing to catch on and study. Though none took to school like Kali did. By the time she was in second grade, she was reading at a sixth grade reading level, nearly fluent in english on a fourth grader's level, and spoke Cherokee with ease. School - to her, was to easy, however. And when it became obvious she'd learn all the teacher was able to offer her - some time around her seventh year, or eighth year of school, Kali began trying to find other things to learn.
For the last few years, Kali had been sneaking away to meet a rancher's son who lived close to the reservation - viewing him as some unique, a person she was not used to. Over the years they'd become close friends, and it was during the summer of her eight grade year that they managed to get ahold of a unique book.
It was late, a night in june, when they'd decided to try something the book talked about - that indians would often do. A ceremony of sorts that would make Kaliska and Colton 'Blood Siblings.' Kali had brought her mother's root night, Colton brought a set of towels from his house. Just to be on the safe side, he'd said. Kali said the chosen words, before she pressed the blade into her palm, creating a narrow slit. While waiting for the blood to well up, Colt did the same to himself, and once he had his palm cut, the two pressed their palms together, and Colton grinned when he declared. 'Now, ya see this, Kal? This here means were Blood siblin's. Which means I'm still the older one, which means now ya got ta do what I say.' And despite their playful teasing, both considered the act something sacred. Of course, their mothers had to find them like that an hour or so later, laughing, and washing the blood in the creek.
After the two families sat down, discussing their children, and their friendship (not to mention the blood sibling ceremony their children had pulled) Kaliska and Colton were allowed to continue being friends, and Colton was even accepted on tribal lands.
When Kali was ready to start her junior year - however... The teacher spoke of the possibility of Kaliska going to a school of the reservation in order to learn what couldn't be taught to her now, in the school on the reservation. Kaliska was all for the idea, and her father found it to be a likeable one as well. And only after they'd convinced Colton's parents to send Colt along with kal, to make sure she didn't get in trouble did they agree to it.
And the next week, Kaliska and Colton were on a plane to California, and were leaving the comfort of their beloved south. Coming to California, neither Kal or Colton were expecting what they saw, though Kali can only speak for herself. By the time they had gotten set up in school, Kali and Colton were ready to explore, and discover just what a unique place this... 'calurfernia' was.
Kaliska grinned as she stood barefoot in the sand, her hand raised to her eyes as she stared out, across the ocean, I bet you ain't never seen no view like this, huh, Colt? She asked, her southern accent matching the way both of them were dressed, as well as fitting with her indian heritage, and his cowboy appearance. She grinned over at the brunette cowboy, laughing slightly, as he nodded, his eyes on the surfers. I betcha want to try some of that, huh? I bet I can pick it up fasta! She declared, causing Colton to laugh, as he sat down on the sand, folding his arms lightly over his long legs, shaking his head.[/s] Kali grinned, laying back down, folding her leather bag into a pillow to cradle her head as she relaxed under the sun. You wish, Colt. You can onleh wish.[/blockquote]Celeb:Kali-girl. Yer plumb crazeh if yer thinkin' you could ever manage ta out do me.He declared.
Kali laughed, as she sat down, beside him, before flopping down onto her back. The sand seemed to fold around her, and as she closed her eyes she felt the warmth of it invade her skin. Colt? She asked suddenly. Her ears caught the sounds of him shifting in the sand, and she looked over to see him turning to look at her,Ya?She grinned, discreetly scooping up a handful of sand, Can you catch me? He frowned in confusion until she through the sand at him, and was on her feet, rushing towards the water, and diving in with ease. Her sleek black hair shimmered in the sunlight when she resurface, brown eyes laughing in delight, though she made no sound, as she lowered her body, letting the water come up to the bridge of her nose, so only her eyes and the top of her head were above the water level. SHe grinned as she watched Colton glare at her, before slowly standing up, and following her into the ocean.
Their game of splashing continued much to the annoyance of some adults with little children. But, before long, the two best friends were flopped out on the beach, exhausted to the point of a flaw. One day, yer not gonna be able to catch me, Brother; and then, I'm gonna show ya who yer maker realleh is.. Colton laughed, pushing her lightly, causing her to tumble into a roll, landing on her tummy, and glare playfully at him.In case ya ain't never gonna notice, Kal. But you ain't never gonna beat me. I'm just to good.
