Appearence:
By any standards, Jin is a good looking guy, but by Korean standards he's particularly hot. He looks Asian, but not too Asian - he's got just the right touch of Caucasian traits to make him swoon-worthy to most ladies. Most of his looks are natural, but the ever-interfering record execs have built a brand on him and no small part of that building was grooming his looks to their specifications.Personality:
Naturally Soon-jin has boyishly good looks with light skin, slender brows and dark, soulful almond brown eyes. Once his nose was a bit oddly shaped, but that's been corrected through surgery, molding the bridge to be slimmer and straighter. Of course this all happened well before the label premiered him to keep media from noticing the change. His eyelids are still a plain Asian single lid, though the label has been pushing him to have surgery to create a more attractive Caucasian double eyelid.
While his hair is naturally a deep black, he dyes it regularly to keep it a dark brown shade, occasionally with much lighter almost orange streaks in the top layer. The locks are kept in a naturally shaggy style, like a less groomed Justin Bieber, and are often swept forward, falling just above his eyes. He takes a huge amount of time to keep up his appearance every day, using plenty of washes, cleansers and hair products. Some female stars he's dated have considered him more high-maintenance than them.
Ahn can pull off a suit better than most Classics and his appearance is amazingly polished. Crisp white shirts, black suit jackets and pants and slim ties comprise much of his wardrobe for appearances. He doesn't really do the hip-hop look, instead sticking with soft sweaters, vests and scarves to create a very prep school look. If he's not going anywhere or feeling particularly lazy, he'll just throw on a hoodie and jeans, but that's unusual for him.
For a pop star, it's surprising how much of a sweetheart Soon-jin can be, and his record label plays up this trait for all its worth. In every public appearance he's a gentleman, handsome and polite, pulling out chairs for his date, always giving perfect respect to everyone he comes in contact with. His fans know him as more of a lover than a heartbreaker, a reputation he has earned. Even after breaking up with a few female stars, they've remained friends and there's been nary a single mention of scandal around him.History:
However, there's more to this loverboy than cute appearances and boyishly good looks. It's true, he's a sweetheart, a good boy, but he's not really looking for love, more for a cute girl to have on his arm for a while just to keep the media happy. If anything happens where a relationship conflicts with his career, the relationship has to go.
That's another thing about Jin - he's a workaholic. Between dance practice, vocal lessons, school, instrument lessons, sports, acting lessons, filming sets, public appearances, shows, videos and personal coaching, he rarely has time for hanging out with normal friends. Even in America where he doesn't have to make appearances, he still fills his days with work and becomes antsy and irritable if he has too much free time.
The incredible pressure of being a star has caused Jin to develop an anxiety disorder and some ritualistic behaviour. He's rarely at ease and is usually found pacing, tapping or fidgeting between activities. He's been pushed into rest periods by his handlers several times and does calm down eventually, but in the mean time he tends to tear into anyone around him, nitpicking anything and everything he can. He's highly perfectionistic, not only with himself but with the efforts others put in and can be a diva at times.
The positive side of this perfectionism is that he tries everything he can and always gives it his all. Negatively, he pushes others to do the same and is annoyed when they can't or won't do the activity to his standards. If he's in rest, after a few days he chills out and becomes very friendly and relaxed, but never seems to lose his competitive streak.
Soon-jin was born in 1993 in Seoul, South Korea. His father was the owner of a small manufacturing business and his mother a secretary in his father's business. Coming from a urban middle class family, Jin grew up in a small apartment in a nice part of the capital city. He was the eldest child in his family and has a younger brother who is thirteen and a younger sister, eight. He attended an English-only kindergarten and quickly excelled, showing skill in reading and writing both Korean and English. At this age his aptitude for acting also began to emerge through small productions the children put on at the end of each year to showcase their studies.Sample Rp:
Because of his excellent studies in kindergarten and aptitude for English, Soon-jin attended a specialized English elementary school, learning the language from native speakers. He once again excelled. His schedule was filled up even at this early of an age with several after-school programs for academics. In third year his love of music became apparent and he began to beg his parents to allow him to take performing arts lessons. They refused, believing lessons in music and acting were a waste of time, as he was expected to take up the family business in manufacturing. It wasn't until fourth grade when a teacher gave the same recommendation that his parents relented, finally allowing a short period of time each week for lessons.
This was perhaps the best decision his parents would ever make for him. A twice a week lesson in singing and acting slowly evolved and began to encompass and guide his entire schedule. The time previously allotted for extra science and math lessons was filled by dance practice, vocal lessons and acting. Jin's teachers noticed there was a particular star quality about him, a naturally finesse which pervaded his movements and an inherent charisma. Still, Soon-jin's academic studies never lapsed. He was diligent, driven and developing that perfectionistic streak which would become more apparent as he got older.
His big break came late in middle school at age thirteen. SM Entertainment, a major Korean record label, was holding open auditions for a new act. The competition was fierce, with hundreds of boys competing for their chance at fame. Eventually it was knocked down to ten, with only two able to advance. While his singing might not have actually topped all of the others in terms of technical abilities, Jin had the sheer charisma to put him through and finish out the competition alongside one other boy.
Things suddenly became a blur after that moment, a wind of publicity, prepping, studies. He was pulled from school and assigned a private tutor, allowing him to spend almost full time at SM Entertainment headquarters, prepping for his debut. The label dropped the second singer, leaving all the fame - and all the pressure - on Jin. A year, hundreds of hours of dance and signing practices and one surgery later, he was ready to be put on the market. The crowds swooned and his fame took off like a rocket.
All good things can't last forever though. Three years and two records later, Soon-jin felt his inspiration and popularity wavering. He had been entirely engulfed in the whirlwind of fame, and as he came down from it he felt devoid of new ideas and lacking in new fans. Three months of soul searching, focus groups and debates over where to take his brand ensued as he attempted to find what was missing, what he needed in his life and career to make himself popular again. Finally, he decided to ask the label for a major favor: a year off to study abroad. Of course the execs hemmed and hawed over potentially losing a year of his marketability, but eventually agreed on the condition that he had to return to make at least two appearances during that year. Spending time in another country and building a fan base there, they decided, would be a good idea. He agreed and they began to figure out where to send him. Finally, they settled on a small private school in Hollywood, California. Jin took off, waving to throngs of adoring fans and well-wishers.
Things didn't go so smoothly in America. It took a month to sort out all of his green card issues and in that time, the slot at the private Hollywood school closed up. With the time and money the label had spent on getting him to America and through all the bureaucracy there, they didn't want to just bring him back. Instead, they went on a search for an alternative school. Every private school which met their standards was already full or not accepting new students, and most of the public schools were unsure about hosting a celebrity student. Finally, word came through that a school was willing to give him a chance: Central High School. Another two weeks of debating ensued, but finally permission was given and Soonjin entered into Central High as a Junior.
